Lovely stretch up from the Sheffield/Manchester road across to holmfirth - fast and open on the way up, with some tight hairpins on the way down. Definately worth a look if youre in the area.

This is my favourite road!
I love climbing the hill from Holme. There are some nice hairpins on a gradient and some lovely uphill sweeping bends that are great for overtaking on.
Once youve come down into the Valley (the downhill ride tests your nerves if you ride at speed) then you join the Manchester/Sheff road for a bit then cut left to cross the reservoir dam. This part of the ride has more blind bends and is less open, but none the less its a good ride with a tighter than expected hairpin at one point.

Turn left as you come into Glossop and hit Snake Pass to Sheffield, then back along the Manchester/Sheff road to Woodhead Reservoir again

Torside road is a cracker. Watch out for sand though. Not too keen on the Holmfirth road myself. Too many woolly things and a sheer drop on the one side of the road. Surface out of Holmfirth is third world. Also watch brow at the top. Seen head ons here due to some idiot overtaking on the blind rise.

pleasant ride over the top of a big hill (lol) add it in with a ride over the snake pass and you get a few hours good riding

Excellent corners on the leg up Holme Moss. Wath out on Holme Moss and Woodhead (A628)- lot of fatalities every year....

after compos cafe (A6024 Woodhead Road) Follow this along through the village and eventually you come to the good bit as you cross over a bridge. The road is now a nsl road with steep gradient and tight corners. At the top, have a stop admire the view, then do the downhill section. Again steep gradient but maybe not as twisty. Eventually you drop out on to wood head pass. You can either go over woodhead to sheffield and come back over snake, head to manchester but take the first left onto the B6105 for a few more more tight twistys to glossop, or stay on the woodhead and come out at mottram then hit the M67 to go home.

This is a great route with good visibility into most corners. Some great corners on steep downhill approaches to test your nerve on the brakes! Watch out for sand on the road about half way up the hill from the lake at Longendale (particularly after rain)- I've seen a biker go down there in the past.

I've regularly rode this route in past summers. As you come out of Holme Firth you climb a huge windy hill to the top of holme moss with some nice tight hairpins (nice viewing point to stop at) continue and head down the other side onto Woodhead Pass(barnsley to manchester) before peeling off left to take a rough but interesting and fun road into glossop. Don't stop there though, hang a left at the lights in glossop and you've got snake pass, it doesn't get much better. Police presence isn't generally a problem until snake pass, but sheep can be, avoid hitting 50 kilo of wool at speed and you'll have a great ride!
