This route is part of my commute during the summer months. It is not salted in winter. It is a great challenging route that I ride on a BMW R1200GSA. Between Watton and Rushden there are about 4 or 6 leaking water sources that can turn to slush in the winter. The road is quite technical and be careful through the narrow lane north of Cromer, where the route crosses the A507 because cars often pull out assuming you plan to turn left and coming into Ashwell as the road is narrow. There are several sections of B roads that have long sweeping bends where you can ride at the national speed limmit. One short section in Ashwell is a gravel road to avoid the village. You can continue straight as the end of the gravel road instead of turning left and you´ll then be able to ride Ashwell Street to Bassingbourn which is a green lane. This route makes a great change from the A507 which is a lovely road but full of cars. The route is open and you´ll have the road to yourself. If you catch up with a car, there are plenty of overtaking opportunities. There are some gravelly corners so take care. Alan
