South Island 2/3 Day Tour (1000kms)
This very long 1000km route should be done over 2 or 3 days and follows one of the most beautiful and famous roads in New Zealand. This route should not have been affected by recent earthquakes too much but it is possible, particularly as you get closer to Christ...
Amazing Route!!! The Queen Charlotte Drive was on form with a bue bird day! Pelorus Sound is magical in every way! so peaceful and unforgettable. Very windy roads but manageable....just pull over to take snaps folks.....don't want to straight line it over the edge of those steep cliffs! P.S the coff...
60 : Takaka Hill South Island , New Zealand August 6, 2016 - 5.0
I've ridden almost all of the South Island of New Zealand and this section of road takes first place for the most fun time of them all.
It has so many great corners linked together through almost 30 kilometers of mountainous road, and all of it topped with a creamy smooth asphalt sur...
Excellent ride from Dunedin to the coast, both for the corners, and the scenery. The road is right on the edge of the water for most of the journey and it's especially good at high tide.
As good a trip on the bike as the southern side of the harbour, but with a slightly higher speed...
Arthurs Pass South Island ..., New Zealand December 19, 2010 - 5.0
A very cool road to ride. You have to keep a close eye on weather. High risk of being caught in snow. Corners are tight and twisty, and scenery is out of this world. Take some extra warm clothes aswell!
Beaut road. Once you hit the rural roads there are no? police but more hazards, and the reverse particularly from Ettrick to Alexandra. Mostly the farm trucks make one or two parts of the road a little dusty. Some care is required.
Coming from Gore, the road is a little hard to follow...
To do this amazing ride you will need something with
knobblies on and some off road skills as well as 10 dollars NZ.
The ride for real starts at Dog Kennel Corner, follow the Halden Road,
which is a gravel road, for 50 Km. When you reach the Black Forest
Farm Station you will to pay the 10 b...
Although the best twisting road in this area is Queenstown to Glenorchy or Paradise, the backroad from Queenstown to Wanaka via Cardrona is very special and lots of windy fun. Twist the throttle, lean in, and hold on to your leathers.
The roads and scenery only become interesting after Geraldine. This is the quickest way to get there out of Christchurch. Main road can get busy so this is the quickest back road. Flat, straight and rather boring but if you get to Geraldine quickly you have more time to enjoy what lies ahead. Care n...
Some nice views of the Alps and Rakia Gorge makes it quite interesting. Definitely the most scenic route to Geraldine from Christchurch and worth the extra time it takes if you are not in a hurry
A really great ride in summer. Our prefered route to Kaikoura even though it is a bit longer. A lot more fun after Mt Lyford. In winter and spring, the left over grit put down to combat the ice spoils the fun of the twisty bits.
This tour is about 200kms and starts and ends near to Dunedin. It starts by following the twisty and scenic minor road north before joining SH1 up to Palmerston. After that it takes SH65 then a turn towards Macraes Flat and a massive gold mine (worth a stop at the viewing platform) and heading inlan...
This 330km route winds us northeast from Gore via the (narrow in places) Moa Flat Road, then highway 2 and up onto the nice State Highway 85
This route has a low level of traffic and some nice curves as well as some things to see (notably the viewing platform into the massive gold mine at Macraes F...
Starting at Invercargill, it is mostly a boring 3 hour drive until you approach Kingston - Lake Waipapa - Frankton. There can be some traffic, but it is usually light.
The devils staircase by the lake is a local legend. Very twisty but limited opportunities to overtake. Nice scenery i...
This 150km route travelling west in a loop from Invercargill offers a very peaceful and fun trip for motorcycles. The northern part of the loop is a bit flatter and less spectacular than the richer more dramatic southern part of this loop but both sections are great for motorcycling. The southern se...
This 330km route that follows the water, offers truly spectacular views of some of the most out of the way places and offers plenty of twists thanks mostly to the elevation changes
Starting in Glenorchy (itself a place of stunning natural beauty, part of it featured in ‘The Lord Of The Rings’ f...
Some of the best sights in the country. Start of the Able Tasman National Park. Cruise the rural river roads looping around the beaches NZ has to offer.
Okain's Bay Road South Island ..., New Zealand June 16, 2015 - 5.0
One of the most special pieces of tarmac in the South Island. If you thought the main road over to Akaroa was good try this. Is near empty almost all the time and has the perfect balance of straights and corners in a twisty and engaging series of sections with multiple off-roads to the various bays....
The Summit Road South Island ..., New Zealand June 16, 2015 - 4.0
Very technical bit of road with multiple tightening blind corners several large dippers with significant weight transfer and the odd off camber corner.
Is often crowded with cyclists and some seriously quick WRX's etc on the weekends but from personal experience is often near empty i...
